Warriors Shine in Hendrix Classic

Felicia Beeman led the Warriors with 37 digs in the two matches combined on Friday night.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College volleyball team took care of business in hasty fashion, earning a pair of sweeps in the Hendrix Classic at Grove Gymnasium on Friday night. The Warriors earned 3-0 victories over Austin College and Southern Athletic Association rival Rhodes College on the evening.

Lauren Petrisin led the way for Hendrix in their dismantling of their conference foe. The freshman notched 18 kills on a .552 attacking percentage to lead the squad, while MC Rogers and Bradi Ryan each tacked on 10 kills. Rogers added a team-high four service aces, seven digs and a block. Allison Gaia tallied 25 assists in the match, while Felicia Beeman came away with 19 digs to lead the Warriors.

The squad hit for a .382 attacking percentage on the night, including a flawless second set where the Warriors registered 15 kills and no attacking errors. The flawless frame marked the team's first set without an attacking error all season. 

The Warriors set the tone from the opening play, rattling off 10 straight points to begin the match. Hendrix freshmen Petrisin and Ryan combined for six kills and Rogers added three aces to give the home team an early cushion. Lauren Johnson finally got Rhodes on the board with a kill, making it 10-1. Seven different Warriors registered at least one kill in the set, as the team rolled to a 25-10 win.

In the second set, Allison Gaia served the Warriors into a 6-0 lead before the team finally surrendered a point. Rhodes went on a 3-0 run to narrow the margin to 6-3, but MC Rogers made sure that the Lynx never got closer, serving out eight consecutive points. Bradi Ryan earned three straight kills to put Hendrix ahead 14-3. The Warriors maintained the pressure throughout the set and ran away with it, earning a 25-7 second set win.

Rhodes took a stand in the third set, playing evenly with the Warriors through the early parts of the frame. Hendrix pulled out to a 13-7 lead after a pair of kills by Petrisin and an ace by Rogers. The Lynx rallied again to come within one point at 15-14, but would get no closer as the home team finished the set on a 10-6 run, closing out the 3-0 sweep with a 25-20 victory.

Against Austin College, Holyn Duyck dished off 18 assists and Bradi Ryan finished with a match-high 16 kills. Leila Matsumoto, Jill Sikes, Beeman and Rogers all finished with a pair of aces to help the team roll to a 3-0 sweep.

The Warriors' defense held the Roos to a -.037 attacking percentage in the first set, and limited them to a .036 attacking percentage for the match. Hendrix hit .241 in the match, registering 42 kills over the course of the three sets.

With their two victories, Hendrix improves to 9-2 on the season and extended their winning streak to five consecutive matches. The Warriors will host Williams Baptist College and Philander Smith College in day two action of the Hendrix Classic.
