Box Score MARSHALL, Texas - The Hendrix College men's soccer team fought hard for 100 minutes to keep East Texas Baptist University off the scoreboard, but the Tigers scored in the 102nd minute of play to earn a 2OT victory over the Warriors, 1-0.
Eric Bracy and the Hendrix defense held the Tigers at bay for the full length of regulation an d the first overtime period, but ETBU found a way to score early in the second extra frame. Quiton Bridges found Christian Garcia, who put the ball into the side netting to give the Tigers their first win of the season.
Hendrix had several opportunities to score, earning 10 shots and seven corners on the day.
Jacob Pierce managed to put a pair of efforts on goal, but was turned away each time by ETBU goalkeeper Juan Perales.
Ryan Stanowski,
Greg Gandy, and
Kyle Budde each had chances as well, but could not find the back of the net.Â
The Warriors' best chance at the net came in the first overtime period. The team earned a corner and Stanowski crossed it into the mixer. The ball went across the goal mouth, just missing several Warriors and was cleared away by the Tigers' back line.
Bracy finished the game with a season-high seven saves, but took the loss in net. Perales earned the win in net making three saves for ETBU.Â
The Warriors fall to 2-6-1 on the season with both wins coming at home. The team will look to return to their winning ways when they host LeTourneau University on September 23.Â
