Box Score ABILENE, Texas - The Hendrix College women's soccer team came out with a fire in the early minutes of their contest against #24 Hardin-Simmons on Saturday, but flamed out as the Cowgirls earned a 2-0 win.
The Warriors and Cowgirls traded opportunities in the first 20 minutes of play, as Hendrix outshot their opponents 3-2 over that span, but the Hardin-Simmons offense did not stay quiet for long. The Cowgirls outshot Hendrix 21-0 the rest of the way, and earned seven corner kicks while allowing the Warriors none.
Jordan Rausch finished with seven saves for the Warriors, but took the loss in net. Lexi Stinson made two saves in net for HSU and earned the victory.Â
Hendrix nearly shocked the 24th-ranked Cowgirls with an early goal, but both
Vanessa Franco and
Janie Stultz had their shots turned away by Stinson. The Warriors' leading scorer
Samantha Lallas also created an opportunity early on, but her shot went sailing wide of the frame.Â
In the 27th minute, HSU's Hadley Schwierking ripped a shot that rang off the post. The ball ricocheted out of the reach of
Jordan Rausch and to the feet of Evan Pipkin who buried it for the Cowgirls, giving the home team a 1-0 lead.Â
Julianne Kucera added to the Hardin-Simmons tally in the second half. The forward scored an unassisted goal just over three minutes into the second half to put the 24th-ranked Cowgirls ahead 2-0.Â
With the loss, Hendrix falls to 5-3-0 on the season and will take on UT Dallas on Sunday, Sept. 21 before beginning a six-game streak against Southern Athletic Association opponents.Â
