Lallas, Rausch Lead Warriors to Win

Samantha Lallas netted both of the Hendrix goals in their 2-1 win over UMHB.
Box Score GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Hendrix College women's soccer team earned a huge victory, knocking off previously undefeated University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders 2-1 on Friday afternoon in a game hosted by Southwestern University.

Jordan Rausch played the best game of her short college career. The freshman made a career-high 11 saves to keep the Warriors out in front of the Crusaders and earn the win in net. Samantha Lallas netted a pair of goals to propel the Hendrix offense. The forward has scored three times in her past two games.

The Warriors were outshot 21-5 over the course of the game, but made their opportunities count. Of their five shots, Hendrix put four of them on goal, testing the UMHB keeper nearly every time they had a chance. The Crusaders managed only 13 of the 21 shots on goal.

After a scoreless first half, Hendrix took control in the second frame with a goal right off the starting whistle. Lallas netted her first score of the day just 1:09 into the second half, giving the Warriors a 1-0 lead.

Later in the frame, Mary Hardin-Baylor answered with a game-tying goal. In the 69th minute, Amanda Carlough found a way to beat Rausch to net the equalizer, knotting the game at 1-1.

With the game tied and momentum slowly shifting away from the Warriors, Lallas changed the tone of the game with her second goal, scoring just 4:05 after the equalizer to stun the Crusaders and put Hendrix ahead 2-1 with just over 17 minutes to play.

In the final 10 minutes of the game, Mary Hardin-Baylor could muster only one shot as the Warriors controlled the pace of the game to hang onto their slim lead. The final whistle gave Hendrix their second consecutive win, and dealt the Crusaders their first loss to a non-conference opponent since 2012.

Hendrix will look to extend their modest winning streak win they take on Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas at 12 p.m. on Sunday, September 7.
