Box Score SHERMAN, Texas. - The Hendrix College volleyball team earned a pair of wins on Saturday at the Austin College Classic, sweeping LeTourneau University 3-0 and edging out University of Texas at Tyler 3-2.
Bradi Ryan led the way in the Warriors' sweep of LeTourneau, earning a team-high 12 kills and a .478 kill percentage.
Natalie Masten notched 11 kills in the match while
Ella Concavage-Nasar and
Jill Sikes each earned a team-best 10 digs.
Allison Gaia finished with 23 assists and Marlle Matlock dished out 10 assists.
In the second match of the day, Hendrix leaned on sophomore
MC Rogers. The sophomore led the way with 19 kills and 18 digs, while
Grace Griffin added 11 kills and five blocks in the middle. Ryan led the team in kills for a second straight match with 23. Gaia notched 33 assists in the five-set match, while Matlock chipped in with 25.
The Warriors started their day on fire, throttling the Yellow Jackets 25-10 in their first set of the sweep. Letourneau kept it close in the second and third matches but Hendrix closed them out with 25-21 and 25-22 victories, respectively.
Against UT Tyler, Hendrix got off to another hot start. The Warriors took set one from the Patriots with a 25-15 victory and looked poised for another sweep after a 25-20 win in the second set. The Patriots gave the Warriors nearly all they could handle though, forcing a game five with a 25-16 win in the third and a 25-18 victory in the fourth.
The fifth set was a see-saw battle, with 14 ties and four lead changes throughout.
Samantha Stockdale set the tone in the fifth set with a kill on the opening point, and consecutive service errors, one from each team, made the score 2-1. With the match hanging in the balance,
MC Rogers and
Bradi Ryan stepped up to lead the charge for Hendrix. Rogers finished the fifth set with eight kills while Ryan tallied four to combine for 12 of the Warriors' 17 points in the set. The pair helped the squad take down the Patriots 17-15 in the fifth, clinching their seventh victory of the season.
Hendrix improves to 7-2 on the year and will open their conference schedule against Southern Athletic Association foe Rhodes College on Friday, Sept. 12 in the Hendrix Invitational. The squad will also face Austin College, Williams Baptist, and Philander Smith in the weekend tournament.
