Warrior Women Open Season With Win

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Hendrix College swimming & diving teams opened the 2015-16 season with a duel at Centenary College of Louisiana on Saturday. The Warrior women won five of the 11 races and topped the Ladies 114-86. The Gents defeated the Warrior men 111-40.

The women avenge their 99-83 loss to Centenary in a duel in Shreveport a year ago.

Hendrix Women Highlights
- Junior Claire De Pree won the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 1:00.28. She also posted a career-best mark in the 50 free in 28.04 seconds, placing third.
- Freshman Haley Whitston won the 1,000 freestyle in 12:05.89. She was also fourth in the 100 yard individual medley and third in the 100 backstroke.
- Senior Caroline Forbes won the 50 freestyle in 26.96 and was runner-up in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:07.78.
- Freshman Journey Eubank took first with a mark of 1:18.65 in the 100 yard breaststroke.
- Emily Horlecia, a freshman was second by .21 seconds in the 200 freestyle.
- Freshman Christine Gozdalski took second in the 100 free in 1:01.57. She was third in the 100 IM in 1:09.45 as well.
- Sophomore Sydney Lacey placed second in the 100 IM in 1:09.36 and third in the 100 butterfly in 1:08.63.
- Another freshman, Eberle Yarborough swam the 100 bakcstorke in 1:06.94, finishing second, and was third in the 100 breaststroke with a  time of 1:19.96.
- Freshman Ploy Freebairn took second in the 500 yard freestyle in 6:06.92 and third in the 200 free in 2:14.84.
- Junior Christina Santner was third in both the 1,000 and 500 freestyle races.
- The 200 freestyle relay team of De Pree, Freebairn, Abby Schlenk and Forbes won by nearly 11 seconds with a time of 1:50.35.
- Gozdalski, Yarborough, Lacey and Horelica were second in the 200 medley relay by .33 seconds with a mark of 2:02.57.

Hendrix Men Highlights
- Junior Chris Griffin recorded a career-best 200 freestyle time of 2:00.65, finishing fourth. He was also second in the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:08.26 and third in the 100 freestyle in 54.88.
- Sophomore Brandon Cathey took second in the 200 freestyle in 1:57.93 and third in the 100 butterfly in 59.95.
- Sophomore Nicolas Maynard was runner-up in the 50 freestyle in 26.04.
- Freshman Andrew Fogg had a mark of 26.14 in the 50 free, finishing third. He was also fourth in the 100 yard backstroke.
- Connor Griffin, a freshman, placed third in the 100 breaststroke.
- Fogg, Connor Griffin, Maynard and junior Austin Davis were second in the 200 medley relay in 1:59.35.
