MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Hendrix College men's tennis team succumbed to top-seeded Sewanee - The University of the South, falling 7-0 in the opening round of the Southern Athletic Association Tournament on Friday afternoon at Old Fort Park.
The 28th-ranked Tigers took all three doubles flight, downing the Warriors' team of
Robert Sheets and
Bob Berardi at first doubles 8-4.
Ian McVinney and
Kiran Chakka fell 8-2 at second doubles, and
Karthik Garimella and
Kristian Lenser were blanked 8-0 at the third flight.
In singles play, the Warriors' top four flights all fell in straight sets.
Kiran Chakka was the only member of the Orange and Black to take a set in the match. Chakka earned a 6-3 first set victory over Alex Cooper at fifth singles, but fell 6-1 in the second set. The match was decided before Chakka could complete the third set for a victory, but he seemed poised to do so.
Hendrix moves to 4-11 on the season and will take on Oglethorpe University in the consolation match on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m.Â
