CONWAY, Ark - The Hendrix College field hockey picked up their first win of the season in decisive fashion, defeating Transylvania University 4-1 in Southern Athletic Association play at Warrior Field Sunday.
Sophomore midfielder
Elisabeth Kraaijenbrink put the Warriors (1-6, 1-2) on the board in the seventh minute with her first career goal. The score was assisted by forward
Morgan Fires. Freshman
Holly Heeb followed less than three minutes later when she found the cage off the rebound of a Madeline Nelly shot.
In the second half, the Orange & Black expanded their lead over the Pioneers (0-4, 0-3) to 4-0 with a pair of goals from junior forward
Raychl Reger in the 39th and 54th minute, respectively. Heeb assisted Reger's first score. Transy finally scored in the 59th minute on a Caroline Patrick goal assisted by Alyson Bergman.
The Pioneers outshot the Warriors 21-16 overall, but only 13-12 on goal. TU also had a slight edge in penalty corners 8-7.
Hendrix Notes- Junior
Gabryele Pochron, the national leader in saves per game, came up with 12 stops.
- The goals were the first in the careers for Kraaijenbrink and Heeb.
- Sunday was the third time Reger has scored multiple goals in a game.
- Hendrix has won the last four meetings with Transy, dating back to last year.
Transylvania Notes- Allyson Benz recorded eight saves in goal.
- Patrick had four shots, two on goal.
- Jessica Chandler took seven shots, two on goal.
