CLARKSVILLE, Ark - The Hendrix College men's tennis team defeated the University of the Ozarks 8-1 Tuesday afternoon to open the 2015-16 campaign.
It was first win for the Warriors (1-0) over the Eagles (0-1) since Sept. 20, 2011.
Hendrix picked up two points right off the bat, as Ozarks only competed with five players. The teams split the remaining doubles matches with the Warrior tandem of sophomore
Kiran Chakka and freshman
Luke Lefler earning an 8-3 win at the second spot over Alix Tiegs and Bryant Ford. UO's top pair Dillon Murray and Jacob Organ defeated junior
Ian McVinney and sophomore
Kristian Lenser in an 8-6 battle.
The Warriors swept the remaining five singles matches with McVinney picking up a 6-4, 6-4 win over Murray and junior
Karthik Garimella topping Organ 6-0, 6-3 in the first at one and two, respectively.
Lenser topped Tiegs 6-0, 6-2 in the third spot and Chakka defeated Ford in a third set tiebreaker 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-4) at number four singles. Lefler in his collegiate debut, played number five and swept Daniel Chue 6-0, 6-0.
Hendrix will be off until Oct. 3 when they travel to Siloam Springs, Ark. to face John Brown University.
