JONESBORO, Ark. - The Hendrix College track & field team broke four school records at the Arkansas State Kickoff Klassic in their first indoor meet of the season.
The Warriors competed against NCAA Division I and II teams Arkansas State, Central Arkansas, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Little Rock, Christian Brothers and Harding.
Freshman
Josh Williams broke the 200 meter dash record in 22.89 seconds, placing 13th, besting Carlton Leding's old mark by nearly a second. Williams also finished eighth in the 400 meter dash in 52.16 seconds, topping
Matt Ramirez' time by almost three seconds.
Williams,
Zech Montgomery,
Sam Byrd and
Marshall Nichol also had a time of 3:45.53 in the 4x400 relay, finishing ninth, and beating the three-year old record by more than a second.
For the women, freshman
Ashton Sitkowski cleared the high jump of 1.58 meters (5 ft.-2.25 in.), breaking All-American Elizabeth Krug's set in 2013 by half an inch.
Hendrix Men's Notes
- Nichol, a sophomore, finished eighth in the shot put with a distance of 9.94 meters (32 ft.-7.5 in.), placing eighth. He also was 23rd in the 55 meter dash in 7.13 seconds.
- Freshman
Bryan Coatney placed 11th in the 55 meter hurdles in 8.71 seconds.
Hendrix Women's Notes
- Freshman
Irrianne Jones finished eighth in the long jump with a mark of 4.51 meters (14 ft.-9.75 in.). She was also 14th in the 55 meter dash in 7.72 seconds and 18th in the 200 meters in 27.34.
- Senior
Samantha Stockdale placed eighth in the shot put with a distance of 9.08 meters (29 ft.-9.5 in.) and was 18th in the 400 meters in 1:10.40.
- Freshman
Bailey Brya took 11th in the 55 meter hurdles in 10.16 seconds.
- Brya,
Kayleigh Johnson,
Mackenzie Gearin and Jones had a time of 4:24.99 in the 4x400 meter relay, finishing eighth.
