CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College men's tennis team defeated John Brown University 5-4 at the Hatcher Tennis Center Thursday.
The Warriors (5-5) and Golden Eagles (1-5) were split 3-3 after singles play.
Hendrix junior
Karthik Garimella, playing in the number one spot for the first time defeated Colton Cheek 6-1, 6-0. Junior
Ian McVinney topped Fernando Hurley 6-2, 6-1 at the second spot and junior
Ilya Pound defeated Matthew Minner 6-4, 6-2 at number six.
JBU took the second doubles match with Hurley & Nathan Kuykendall topping McVinney and
Luke Lefler 8-4. Hendrix evened it up with Pound and freshman
Daniel Sweeney defeating Luke Reimer and Matthew Minner 8-5 in the third spot. Pound and Sweeney overcame won the final five points after trailing 5-3.
Coming down to the top doubles match up, Garimella and sophomore
Kiran Chakka trailed Cheek and Kumhal Fulghen 5-4 before coming back to win 8-5.
This is the third win over the Golden Eagles for the Warriors this season.
Hendrix will be off until Apr. 2 when they host Sewanee - The University of the South in a conference match.
