COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. - The Hendrix College softball team's 2016 campaign came to an end with a 7-4, eight-inning loss to Rhodes College in the Southern Athletic Association Tournament Saturday night.
The Warriors, the fifth seed, end the season with a 21-18 record. The sixth-seeded Lynx (25-19) move on to the semifinals against Birmingham-Southern.
Rhodes had a chance to score in the top of the fifth, but sophomore left fielder
Samantha Schaefer robbed Jill Healy's home run by crashing over the fence.
Hendrix broke open a scoreless game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Sophomore right fielder
Bryanna Carlisle led off with a single and stole second and senior third baseman
Shelby Anderson followed with a single, moving Carlisle to third. Anderson stole second and the Lynx' throw was errant, allowing Carlisle to cross the plate. Sophomore first baseman
Nikki Sanders scored Anderson on a squeeze bunt.
Rhodes took back a run in the top of the sixth when third baseman Christine Hume led off with a single and later scored on a wild pitch.
The Warriors made the game 4-1 in the sixth when Schaefer singled and was lifted for sophomore
Rebecca Maeder. Carlisle moved Maeder over with a base hit up the middle. Anderson followed with a RBI-double, driving in Maeder, and Carlisle scored after an error on the play.
The Lynx managed to tie the game in the top of the seventh on three hits and an error. Catcher Rachel Pewitt hit a two-run triple and left fielder Kendall Henry doubled in Pewitt.
Rhodes secured the win in the top of the eighth when Caroline Reilly led off with a double and Healy homered to center field. Pewitt added a RBI-single later in the inning for the 7-4 victory.
The Lynx outhit the Warriors 15-13, and made five errors to Hendrix' two.
Reilly (6-3) earned the win, allowing five hits, two runs and two walks over four innings of relief. Freshman
Savannah Draud (3-2) took the loss for the Warriors by giving up three runs in the eighth. Freshman starter
Emily Stockalper gave up 11 hits, one earned run and a walk over seven innings.
The Warriors left 13 runners on base.
Hendrix Notes
- Anderson went 3-for-4 with a double, a stolen base, a run scored and a RBI to cap off a fantastic career. She finished as the Warriors' career leader with 126 runs, 47 doubles and 282 total bases. Anderson also set new single season records with 10 home runs and 90 total bases.
- Carlisle went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and a stolen base.

Madi Fires collected a pair of singles.

Karli Sewell tied the school record by throwing out her 15th stolen base attempt of the season. She tied McKinzie Fruchtl's mark set in 2007.
