Men's Tennis Picks Up First Win of Season

CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College men's tennis team earned their first win of the season, defeating John Brown University 7-2 at home Friday afternoon.

The Warriors (1-3) took two of the three doubles matches from the Golden Eagles (1-1). Junior Kristan Lenser and sophomore Luke Lefler topped Kumhal Fulghem and Stone Swieter in number two doubles 8-5. Junior Daniel Habenicht and sophomore Daniel Sweeney defeated Axel Bentancourt and Jordan Scoggins 8-4 in the third spot.

Hendrix won five of the six singles matches, with two wins coming in the third-set tiebreaker. Senior Karthik Garimella downed Nathan Kuykendall 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4) in the top flight and Habenicht defeated Scoggins 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5) in sixth singles.

Senior Ian McVinney picked up a 6-3, 6-0 win over Fulghem in number three singles and Lenser beat Swieter 6-3, 6-1 at number four. Lefler also defeated Bentancourt 6-3, 6-2 at number five.

Hendrix will return to the court Saturday at 2 p.m. against the University of the Ozarks at home.
