RICHARDSON, Texas - The Hendrix College baseball team lost to the University of Texas at Dallas 16-6 in their series opener on Friday afternoon.
The host Comets (7-1) outhit the Warriors 19-10 on the day, with the home team hitting three home runs. Hendrix recorded a pair of dingers.
Center fielder Josh Covey and second baseman Ryan Burciaga led the bottom of the first off with back-to-back solo homers. They added three more runs in the second to go up 5-0.

Jake Wiegand led the top of the third off with a walk and scored on a double from sophomore shortstop
Jorge Leon to make it 5-1. The Comets added five runs in the bottom of the frame on four hits, two walks, an error and a passed ball. Warrior junior second baseman
Drew Judson led the fourth off with a solo homer to left center to make the game 10-2.
UTD added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth, including a solo shot from designated hitter Garrett Uhl to start the inning. In the top of the sixth, sophomore designated hitter
Josh Walker led off with a single and sophomore left fielder
Tanner Cooper doubled, putting both men into scoring position. Junior right fielder
Matthew Lillard followed with a sac fly to center, plating Walker. Cooper scored on a ground ball by sophomore catcher
Justin Robison.
The Comets scored two more runs in the sixth to go up 16-5. Hendrix scored once more in the seventh when junior center
JR McAuley walked and was driven from third on a Judson sac fly.
Jamie Andriot (2-0) earned the win for UTD, allowing six runs, 10 hits and a walk with six strikeouts over seven innings. Sophomore starter
Taylor Barker (0-1) took the loss, lasting only 2.1 innings. Senior reliever
Colten Poellinger allowed only a walk in two scoreless frames for the Warriors.
Hendrix Notes
- Judson extended his hitting streak to 14 games with his home run. He also recorded two RBI and stole a base.
- Leon went 3-for-5 with two RBI with a single, double and homer for a career-high seven total bases.
- Walker extended his hitting streak to 10 games with three hits and a run scored.
- Cooper picked up a double and Lillard and Wiegand each recorded singles.
UT Dallas Notes
- Burciaga went 3-for-5 with three runs cored and five RBI.
- Third baseman Connor Scruggs was 4-for-6 with three RBI.
- Shortstop Isaiah Swan was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.
- Covey had two hits, two RBI and three runs scored
