CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College baseball team fell to Sewanee - The University of the South 15-7 in the Southern Athletic Association series finale at Warrior Field on Sunday.
The Tigers (11-9, 4-1) opened the game with six runs on three hits, two walks and a hit batter in the first. Shortstop Trey Akins and third baseman Max Murray each hit a two-run double in the inning.
The Warriors (8-12, 3-3) scored two in the bottom of the first after sophomore shortstop
Jorge Leon reached on an error and junior center fielder
Drew Judson singled and both scored on a single up the middle from junior right fielder
Matthew Lillard.
Judson led the third off with a double and later scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of sophomore catcher
Justin Robison to make the game 6-3.
Sewanee scored four more runs in the fourth on four hits and an error. Akins had a two-run base hit in the frame. Hendrix cut the lead to 10-4 in the bottom of the fourth when sophomore third baseman
Dylan Bowers singled and scored on a base hit by Judson.
The Tigers scored four more runs on two hits, a walk, a hit batter and a sac fly. Right fielder Tony Dykes drove in two with a double.
Hendrix had three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Bowers walked and Leon was hit by a pitch to start the inning. After a wild pitch, sophomore first baseman
Josh Walker drew a walk to load the bases. Lillard followed with the bases loaded walk, plating Bowers. Freshman catcher
Joshua Rollins knocked in Leon and Walker with a bloop single to left field to make the game 14-7.
Sewanee scored the final run of the game in the ninth on a sac fly from first baseman Drew Mancuso.
Tiger reliever Bryce Benedict (1-1) threw six innings, allowing five hits, two runs, a walk and a strikeout to get the win. Senior
Colten Poellinger (0-2) took the loss in the start, lasting only two outs.
