Hendrix Defeats DII Harding 7-4

CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College baseball team defeated NCAA Division II foe Harding University 7-4 at Warrior Field Wednesday evening.

The Warriors (4-9) outhit the Bisons (4-14) 12-7 and used eight pitchers in the win.

Harding scored in the top of the second when right fielder Chris Taylor led off with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by catcher J. Paul Fullerton. They went up 4-0 in the third on three hits and a hit by pitch. Taylor had a two-run single in the frame.

Hendrix posted five runs in the bottom of the fourth. Sophomore third baseman Dylan Bowers hit a RBI-infield single and sophomore shortstop Jorge Leon and junior center fielder Drew Judson connected on back-to-back two-run doubles to give the Orange & Black the lead.

The Warriors tacked on two more runs in the eighth. With two outs, freshman left fielder Sean Dehne singled, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Bowers base hit. Bowers the stole second followed by a walk issued to Leon. Judson hit a base hit up the middle, scoring Bowers for the final run of the game.

Freshman Josh Gonzales (1-0) picked up the win, allowing just a hit while throwing a scoreless fourth inning. Sophomore Taylor Barker earned the save, the fifth of his career. Nash Thomas (0-2) took the loss.

Hendrix Notes
- Gonzales, Hayden Seay, Colten Poellinger, Brian Epstein, Connor Nelso and Barker combined to throw six scoreless innings.
- Judson went 4-for-5 with three hits, including a double.
- Bowers was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, a pair of RBI and a steal.
- Dehne was 2-for-3 with two runs and a walk.
- Leon plated two runs with his double.

Harding Notes
- Taylor finished with a triple and a single and two RBI.
- First baseman Grant Guest went 2-for-4 and stole two bases.
- Center fielder Brooks Pitaniello had a hit, a run, a walk and two stolen bases.

Hendrix will face Central College at home in a double-header on Friday at 3 p.m.
