Warriors Sweep Big Blue Saturday in Home Opening Games

CONWAY, Ark. – The Warriors opened up the 2019 season at home Saturday when Hendrix hosted Millikin for a pair of games from Warrior Field. Tied up 2-all late in the game, two runs in the bottom half of the eighth inning allowed for an 8-6 victory by Hendrix in the Warriors' first-ever victory over Big Blue in program history. In game two of the doubleheader, Evan Ingram tossed seven innings of two-hit baseball en route to his first victory of the season after Hendrix hung nine runs on Big Blow in a 9-0 shutout of Millikin for the series victory.

NOTABLE:
GAME 1
- Following six and one-third innings of quality baseball from Jack Hodgins, Evan Orren came in to finish the seventh inning before Orlando worked the last two innings to pick up the save. 
- Sherrington recorded the go-ahead RBI in the eighth inning after scoring Jo. Leon and Cooper scored Sherrington later for an insurance run.
- Ju. Leon finished the game batting 3-for-3 with a RBI while his brother Jo. Leon also collected three hits.
- Sherrington went 2-for-4 with three runs and a pair of RBIs.
- Sean Dehne recorded a pair of hits as well.

GAME 2
- Hendrix carved up five runs during Ingram's outing; more than enough for the junior.
- Gilliam, Sherrington and Jo. Leon finished with three-hit performances while Stoyanow and Dehne added two hits apiece.
- Gilliam collected two RBIs as did Walker.
- Walker belted a home run to left field in the eighth run to score Hendrix's ninth run of the game as the Warriors cruised to a dominant 9-0 shutout of Millikin.
- Ingram faced one batter in the eighth.
- Zach Orlando and Andrei Stoyanow combined for two innings of hit-less work.


WHAT WAS SAID:
"I'm really proud of the way our guys competed today," stated head man Sean McSheffery. "Our pitching staff did a great job. Both starters gave us a pair of great outing's and our bullpen did a great job closing the job. Our offense did a great job putting pressure on the defense and executed when we needed to. All around, a great day!"

WHO'S NEXT:
Hendrix will take on Millikin Sunday at 12 p.m. from Conway in the final game of the series against Big Blue.
