Warriors Take Down Colonels for 12th Win in Last 13 Tries Against Centre

CONWAY, Ark. – Coming off its first season series victory against Berry since the 2017 season to open up Southern Athletic Association play, Hendrix faced its first conference road test with a three-game series against Centre, who is also receiving votes in the D3baseball.com national poll, with the first two games scheduled for Saturday. While rain managed to push back the second game to Sunday, Hendrix managed to score three runs in the first inning en route to a 3-0 shutout win against the Colonels; the 12th victory over Centre in Hendrix's last 13 attempts on the baseball diamond. Freshman Jack Hodgins picked up his second collegiate win after tossing seven innings of scoreless baseball for the Warriors.

HOW THE WARRIORS SCORED:
- 1st - Jorge Leon singled to right field, RBI; Seth Tucker scored.
- 1st - Ford Sherrington grounded out to 3b, RBI; Tanner Cooper advanced to third; Jorge Leon scored.
- 1st - Andrei Stoyanow grounded out to 1b unassisted, RBI; Tanner Cooper scored.

WARRIORS' DECISION(S) ON THE MOUND:
   W – Jack Hodgins (2-1); 7.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R/0 ER, 4 K/1 BB
   S  – Taylor Barker (5); 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R/0 ER, 0 K/0 BB

NOTABLE:
- A lead-off triple by Tucker in the first at-bat of the contest helped set all the momentum for Hendrix after the Warriors scored three runs in the first inning.
- In Hodgins' fifth appearance of his career, the freshman fanned four Colonels in the seven innings of work and allowed just four hits and a walk; produced two 1-2-3 innings for Hendrix Saturday.
- Tucker, Cooper, Jo. Leon and Ju. Leon recorded the four lone hits for Hendrix in the win while Cooper and Tucker both tallied the two lone extra-base hits against Centre.
- Jo. Leon accounted for the first RBI on the day while Sherrington and Stoyanow picked up RBI ground outs right after.
- Evan Ingram relieved Hodgins in the eighth inning; recording a 12-pitch scoreless seventh inning for Hendrix.
- Barker came on in the ninth inning. After allowing a one-out single, the senior finished the game for another save; his conference-leading fifth of the year. With the save, Barker moves into a tie for third place all-time for career saves in program history (10, tied with Justin Mosbey, 2011-14).
- With the 12th victory of the season already, Hendrix has tied how many wins the entire 2018 club had a season ago.

WHAT WAS SAID:
"Great win," stated Head Coach Sean McSheffery after Hendrix continued to stay atop the SAA standings. "Jack Hodgins carried us today; really proud of him and proud of our defense. Our offense did a great job in the first inning and got us what we needed to get a big road win. Once again, really proud of our guys."

WHO'S NEXT:
After thunderstorms postponed the second game Saturday, the Warriors and the Colonels are set to play a doubleheader set to begin at 10 a.m. Sunday from Danville, Ky.
