Incredible Season Continues as Warriors Take Down Petrels Twice Saturday

ATLANTA, Ga. - Looking to continue its magnificent start to the 2019 season in Head Coach Sean McSheffery's first year, Hendrix took on Oglethorpe twice Saturday in its last road doubleheader of the regular season. After trailing 6-5 in the eighth inning in the opening game, the Warriors recorded five runs in the frame off just two hits while the Petrels committed four errors in the inning to take a commanding 10-6 lead with six outs away from another conference win; Hendrix won 11-6. In the second game, Tanner Cooper's eventual go-ahead sacrifice fly in the seventh inning proved to be the difference maker as Hendrix won 5-4 in the seven-inning affair. Each pitcher that picked up a win Saturday for Hendrix improve to 5-0 on the season. With the two wins, the Warriors improve to 26-10 on the season including a 13-4 mark in Southern Athletic Association play while Oglethorpe drops to 9-26 on the season with a 5-12 mark in conference action.

NOTABLE:
GAME 1
- Jo. Leon launched his first home run of the year in the third frame; a two-run shot over the right field wall to put Hendrix up 2-0.
- After the Petrels struck for three runs to take a 3-2 lead, the Warriors struck for the next three runs, capped off by a sacrifice fly by Dehne in the fourth frame.
- A lead-off double by Ju. Leon and a walk by Stoyanow in the eighth helped Hendrix build a momentum; finishing the inning with five runs scored off two hits to take the 10-6 lead with six outs away from a win.
- Kyle Wellman pitched the final two and one-third innings of work to pick up the win; his fifth of the season and only allowed one hit and one walk against the Petrels.
- Jack Hodgins started the game; tossed five innings of action while giving up eight hits and four runs against Oglethorpe.
- Ju. Leon tallied a career-best four hits in the game; batting 4-for-5 at the plate with three runs scored.
- Gilliam collected three hits in the win while Tucker, Jo. Leon and Stoyanow added two hits apiece in the big conference win.

GAME 2
- Hendrix struck for three runs off three hits in the first inning to take an early 3-0 lead in the game.
- Ju. Leon picked up an RBI single up the middle in the sixth frame to put Hendrix on top, 4-2.
- After the Petrels scored two in the sixth to tie it at 4-all; a sacrifice fly by Cooper in the seventh scored Dehne and gave Hendrix the 5-4 lead with three outs away.
- Barker pitched the final inning of work; striking out the side and picking up his 10th save of the season. Barker is now five saves shy of tying the program record for career saves.
- Andrei Stoyanow improved to an outstanding 5-0 on the season after pitching six innings of work and only allowing five hits while striking out three.
- Cooper and Ju. Leon picked up two hits apiece for Hendrix while Cooper and Stoyanow picked up the lone extra-base hits in the game; both doubles.
- Stoyanow went 1-for-3 at the plate with a pair of RBIs in the game as well.
- With four conference games left scheduled, Hendrix is in first place in the SAA standings; holding a two-game lead.
