Box Score 3 Rome, Ga.- The Warriors took to the road for their second-to-last Southern Athletic Association series, where they were hosted by the Berry College Vikings. This three-game set was exceptionally close, with every game being decided by a run or two.
Game 1: Miles Schluterman made his longest start of the season, delivering five innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out two. Schluterman was relieved by Nathan Silva, who collected a strikeout, and Silva was followed by John Henry Fowler who dealt four and two-thirds shutout innings. Jack Hodgins came out of the bullpen in the eleventh inning and gave up the game-winning run on three hits.
A handful of Warriors had solid showings at the plate, but the Warrior offense came up short, only scoring three runs on eleven hits. Eight of the Warriors' eleven hits came off the bats of Adam Bland, Owen Shaw, Zach Marriott, and Drake Job with two hits each including an Adam Bland double. Bland, Shaw, and Marriott each picked up an RBI as well. Berry took Game 1 in extra innings by a score of 4-3.
Game 2: David Blackburn toed the rubber for the Warriors in Game 2. In typical Blackburn fashion, the senior right-hander went seven innings, allowing four runs (two earned). Blackburn struck out six and only issued one walk. Cade McWilliams, who has filled several roles for the Warrior pitching staff this season, was solid out of the bullpen, throwing two shutout innings and earning a save.
The Warrior bats were hot in Game 2. They plated five runs on ten hits while striking out a mere three times. Zach Marriott jumpstarted the Warrior offense with a two-run blast in the second inning. Adam Bland, Jacob Carpentier, and David Ripple were each good for a double. Bland scored once, and David Ripple picked up an RBI. Ripple also notched two stolen bases. The Warriors edged out the Vikings and picked up a 5-4 win.
Game 3: The series came down to the third game, and Andrei Stoyanow took the hill for the Warriors in the pivotal game. Stoyanow was good for four and one-third innings allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits and a walk. Jacob Wagner and Nathan Silva combined to finish out the fifth with Wagner surrendering an earned run. Bobby Fowler threw the sixth inning, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk which tabbed him for the loss.
Zach Marriott and Joseph Watts went off at the plate in Game 3. Marriott collected three hits including a double and a triple. Watts mashed a homer and a triple, plating four runs in the process. David Ripple collected a pair of hits, and Jacob Carpentier accounted for the other Warrior hit. Despite some very solid at-bats, the Warrior offense came up two runs short of the Vikings and dropped the game 7-5.
The Warriors will be back in action on Tuesday, as they host Ozarks at home at 6:00pm. They will host Birmingham-Southern at home on Friday and Saturday for senior day and the final SAA conference series of the season.
