Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Sherman, Texas - The Hendrix Warriors dropped both matches of their doubleheader with Austin College to open the 2024 season.
Hendrix took the lead in Game 1 after
Ashlynn Fowler scored on a throwing error. It was the first of two runs that Fowler would score in Game 1 to go along with 3 hits in 4 at-bats.
The wheels came off in the third as the Warriors gave up a 7-spot to the 'Roos, which proved too much to come back from.
Paizley Vaught, Nakie Fields, and Fowler each plated runs in the 6th, but those proved to be consolation runs as the 'Roos took Game 1 9-5.
Game 2 would follow suit, with Hendrix building an early lead before letting it go.
The Warriors plated four runs in the 1st inning, with Maddie Groves driving in
Betty Wolfe before Ashylnn Fowler went deep with a 2-run shot.
Kendyl Patton then drove in
Layton Rogers with an RBI triple and looked to make it in an inside-the-parker before being thrown out at home.
Andie Houser plated a run in the second to give Hendrix a 5-1 lead, but then surrendered the game's next 9 runs over the next three innings.
Tori Veith and Patton each drove in runs late, but it would prove to be too-little-too-late as Austin took Game 2 15-7.
The losses drop Hendrix to 0-2 on the year, and they will now return to Conway to host Centenary next weekend at Warrior Softball Field. First pitch for Game 1 is set for 12:00 PM next Saturday.
