Atlanta, Ga. - On Monday, the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) released its 2024 all-conference teams, with 6 Warriors earning All-SAA honors for their contributions in leading Hendrix on their best postseason run since 2009.
Bryson Bales and
Adam Bland were named First Team All-SAA.
This was Bland's second time being named to the First Team, and his third All-SAA selection after being named to the Second Team last season. He finished second on the team in hitting in 2024 with a .340 batting average and co-led the team in home runs with 2 alongside
Ian Guthrie. Bland slugged .457 to lead the team, tallying 11 doubles and driving in 35 runs over 46 games played. He was one of two Warriors, alongside
Zach Marriott, to start every single game this season.
Bales was named All-SAA for the first time in his career as the ace of the Warriors' pitching staff. Bales pitched to a 4.21 ERA across 68.1 IP in 13 starts. He led the pitching staff by a considerable margin with 85 strikeouts, which was second-most in the SAA.
Drake Job was named to the All-SAA Second Team after a phenomenal year at the plate. Job led the team with a .389 batting average and knocked in a team-high 48 runs, which ranked third in the SAA.
Nathan Silva,
Joseph Watts, and
Dylan Kalmus were named All-SAA Honorable Mention.
Silva, who occupied the "stopper" role for the Warriors' pitching staff, was called upon in many high-leverage situations throughout the year and delivered time and time again. He pitched to a 1.50 ERA across 12.0 IP in 22 appearances, allowing just 3 runs while striking out 11.
Watts, the everyday center-fielder for the Warriors, earns All-SAA honors for the first time after a four-year career that helped distinguish himself as one of the top outfielders in the SAA. He hit .298 over 46 games and knocked in 30 runs while slugging .411. (
Sandy's note: it won't show up in the stats, but runners on the base path
never tested Watts' arm while he patrolled centerfield.)
Kalmus is the lone freshman Warrior to earn All-SAA distinction after an impressive inaugural 2024 campaign on the mound. He started out the year as the midweek starter, but made his way into the weekend rotation. Kalmus started 8 games and appeared in 4 in relief, pitching to a 4.22 ERA across 49.0 IP of work. He finished third on the team in strikeouts with 40, 10 of which came in a phenomenal relief appearance against Oglethorpe in Game 2 of the opening round of the SAA playoffs.
