CONWAY - Westin Bruce is the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
The SCAC's top receiver had a standout night against Schreiner on Saturday night in Kerrville, hauling in three touchdown grabs and going off for 196 yards in the Warriors' 49-42 win at Antler Stadium. Bruce three touchdowns came on receptions of 58, 52, and 50 yards, including the go-ahead touchdown midway through the third quarter to give Hendrix its first lead of the night.
Saturday's performance took Bruce up to 691 yards on the year to go with 6 touchdown receptions. He currently leads all of NCAA Division III in total receiving yards and receiving yards per game, and his 6 touchdowns ranks tied for 7th nationally. His 196 receiving yards ranks fourth all-time in single-game program history.
This is Bruce's first outright SCAC Player of the Week honor. He was named the SCAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week last season for his 224-yard performance versus Millsaps.
Bruce and the Warriors return home off a three-game road stretch to host Centenary on October 10 for Homecoming. Kick-off is set for 1:00 PM at Young-Wise Memorial Stadium.
