CONWAY - Senior night for Hendrix volleyball will coincide with the Warriors' regular season home finale on Friday night as they host in-state foe the University of the Ozarks.
The volleyball program will celebrate its eight seniors at the Grove on Friday:
Ana Bastos,
Riley Brady,
Camryn Kennedy,
Mariana Leite,
Rachel Pearce,
Chloe Staggs,
Mary Addisyn Stubbs, and
Enaiya Thompson, all of whom have helped Hendrix regain its status as a championship contender
Hendrix clinched its second-consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season Blue Division championship last weekend with a sweep of Austin College and Centenary at Grove Gymnasium. The two wins meant that Hendrix will finish no lower than second in the overall league standings heading into the SCAC tournament next weekend in Longview, Texas. Results elsewhere could push the Warriors towards the number one overall seed, though they will need help from the University of St. Thomas and Concordia Texas in their matches against the league leaders, Texas Lutheran.
Hendrix enters the weekend 15-6 overall and 10-1 in the SCAC. They will face the University of the Ozarks (3-17, 3-9 SCAC) on Friday before heading to Sherman, Texas on Sunday for the regular season finale in a return trip against Austin College, who the Warriors beat in a five-set thriller two weeks ago. Ozarks is coming off a home split last weekend in Clarksville, having beat Centenary 3-1 before suffering a sweep against Austin College on Saturday, but have already been mathematically eliminated from postseason contention.
The Warriors began conference play in Clarksville back on September 25 when they defeated Ozarks in four sets at Mabee Gymnasium. Hendrix overcame a first-set loss to rally and win the next three sets.
Riley Brady led the Warriors with 16 kills, while
Ava Burns stood out defensively with 5 total blocks. The Warriors hit 0.323 as a team on 133 total attacks while limiting the Eagles to just 49 points offensively and a 0.180 hitting percentage.
Ana Bastos leads the Warriors in points entering the final weekend, having tallied 254.0 points (3.22 points per set) up to this point. The senior has recorded 216 kills in 21 matches played and is hitting 0.233 on 647 total attacks.
Of note, senior
Mary Addisyn Stubbs will be chasing history this weekend. The defensive specialist already surpassed 1000 career digs earlier this season, and now has a chance to become the all-time program leader in service aces. Stubbs recorded four service aces versus Centenary last Saturday, which took her up 125 in her career and on par with Hendrix alum Jill Sikes for the most all-time.
