NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Hendrix men's and women's track and field programs traveled to east Texas over the weekend to take part in the Carl Knight Invitational hosted by Stephen F. Austin University.
The highlight of the day came in the men's 4x100m relay as Jaiden Kim,
Tre Watts, and
Westin Bruce finished first in the event with a 41.58, which bested several "A" teams representing NCAA Division II competition. Bruce also finished fifth in the men's 100 meters with a 10.61. In the 4x400m, Watts, Laron Johnson, Rhett Glenn, and
Owen Liencame in fifth with a 3:34.51.
William Andrews finished 12th in the men's 110m hurdles, which was the fastest time for a Division III student-athlete at the meet.
In the field,
Jayvian Coulter finished eighth in the men's javelin with a 46.92 throw, while
Miguel Manners and Dee Woods both posted top-20 finishes in the men's long jump. Coulter and
Tristian Johnson both finished inside the top 15 in the men's shot put, with Johnson posting a 12th-place finish (13.36m).
On the women's side,
B Adams posted two top-five finishes in the field, coming in fifth in both the women's shot put (12.28m) and the women's hammer (45.38m) while also cracking the top ten in the women's discus (45.38m).
Shyanne Miller was the second-highest placed Division III finisher behind Adams in the hammer with a 29.52m throw.
Ember Hughes finished eighth in the javelin with a 37.21m throw and was just outside the top ten in the high jump with a 1.48m jump.
Ava Clark was the highest non-Division I or II finisher in the women's long jump with a 4.68m leap.
Hendrix will get one fine tune-up before the SCAC Championships next weekend when they head to Searcy for the Bryan Phillips Invitational hosted by Harding University.
