Warriors Erase Beavers' Halftime Lead

Senior center Dayton Sheridan recorded career-highs with 18 points and 10 rebounds on Sunday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Hendrix College men's basketball team erased a seven-point halftime deficit to defeat Blackburn College 72-67 at the Rhodes College Thanksgiving Classic on Sunday. The Warriors (2-3) shot 60 percent in the second half and were led by senior center Dayton Sherdian's career-high 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Hendrix jumped out to a 21-12 lead over the first eight and half minutes of the game, but the Beavers (1-4) responded with a 22-4 run to gain a 34-25 advantage with 1:55 left in the period. Blackburn would lead 35-28 at halftime.

The Warriors started the second half on a 16-2 streak to take a 44-37 lead at the 15:08 mark. Hendrix would expand the lead to as much as 13 points, but the Beavers fought back to cut the score to 68-65 with 39 seconds left on a Jeremy King basket. The Warriors remained in control by hitting four of their final six free throws over the final seconds.

For the game, Hendrix shot 49 percent (24-of-49) and made 5-of-17 shots from three-point territory. They also went 19-of-34 at the free throw line. Blackburn shot 39 percent (25-of-64), went 6-of-14 from outside and 11-of-22 at the line. he teams were even at 35 rebounds each.

Along with Sheridan's career day, senior guard Jaren Riley hit three long-range shots on his way to 14 points. Junior forward Colton Primm had 11 points and six rebounds and sophomore guard Nathan McCubbin netted a career-best 10 points. Sophomore forward Luke Vance came off the bench to score eight points and pull down a career-high 10 boards and sophomore guard Andy Gram chipped in eight points.

Brandon Hill paced the Beavers with 17 points off the bench. Jon Lowry scored 13 points and Brandon Adams had seven points and 10 rebounds.

Hendrix will return to Memphis on Wednesday when they open Southern Athletic Association play with Rhodes.
