Warriors Open Season With Win Over Griffins

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Hendrix College men's basketball team opened the 2013-14 campaign with an 88-80 victory over Fontbonne University at the Washington University Field House on Saturday night.

The Warriors (1-0) bult a 19-point lead after a three-pointer by sophomore guard Drew Nikolovski, making it 37-18 with 6:09 left in the first half. The Griffins (0-1) chipped away to make it a nine-point game at the break. Fontbonne started the second half by outscoring Hendrix 21-11 to take a 53-52 lead with 12:31 to play. The Warriors withstood the onslaught, regaining the lead for good two minutes later, and building the advantage to as many as 10 points.

Hendrix shot 53 percent from the field (27-of-51) and 50 percent from three-point range (6-of-12). They were also 28-of-41 at the free throw line. Fontbonne shot 35 percent (24-of-69) and were 5-of-23 from outside and 27-of-35 from the stripe. The Warriors dominated the boards 48-34.

Senior forward Colton Primm led Hendrix with 19 points and seven rebounds. Junior forward Luke Vance tied his career-best with 17 points to go with seven boards and sophomore guard Alec Conard made three outside shots, en route to 17 points. Sophomore guard Jordan Barrett came off the bench to score a career-high 13 points. Nikolovski and sophomore guard Hank Aldous each added six points and sophomore point guard Jordan Taulton had four points, five assists and two steals.

Jared Greenlee led the Griffins with 18 points, 11 rebounds and four steals. Blake Welch, Kody Ettinger and Darius Rucker each scored 12 points. Bryan DeGeare had nine points and four blocks and Dallas Haywood recorded six points, five boards and five assists.

Hendrix will take on Washington University on Sunday at 2 p.m. on Fontbonne's campus.
