CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix men's basketball team held off Centenary College of Louisiana 81-75 at Grove Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.
The visiting Gents (4-3) established a 34-32 lead at halftime expanded their advantage to 43-36 with 14:50 to play. The Warriors (6-5) fought back to take a 56-53 lead with 6:50 remaining. From there, Hendrix went on a 12-5 run, with eight of the points coming at the free throw line, to go up 68-58 with 2:21 to play.
The Warriors led 75-67 with 35 seconds remaining before the Gents rallied back to cut the score to 77-75 after a Brooks Pawsat lay-up with 15 seconds on the clock. Beating the press on the next possession, Hendrix sophomore guard
Hank Aldous scored a lay-up go move the lead back to four. Centenary missed a three outside shots before Aldous grabbed the final rebound and sunk a pair of free throws with 0.5 seconds left to seal the victory.
For the game, Hendrix shot 45 percent (23-of-51) from the field, 3-of-15 from three-point range and 32-of-52 at the free throw line. Centenary shot 30 percent (20-of-66), 1-of-12 from long range and 34-of-45 at the stripe. The Gents held a 48-42 rebound advantage.
Senior forward
Colton Primm led the Warriors with a career-high 21 points, six of which came at the free throw line in the final minute, to go with 12 rebounds, two steals and five blocks, another personal best. Sophomore guard
Drew Nikolovski recorded 16 points, seven boards, two assists, two blocks and two steals. Aldous finished with 12 points and a pair of assists. Junior forward
Luke Vance added eight points and freshman point guard
Gabe Gumm came off the bench to contribute six points, six assists and four rebounds.
Caden Cheramie led the Gents with 22 points, going 15-of-17 at the free throw line, and 11 rebounds. All-American Jonathan Blount scored 20 points, but went 5-of-20 from the floor. Kendall Demouchet added 10 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks and three steals.
Hendrix will return to action on Sunday when they host the Open Bible College at 2 p.m.
