Warriors Fall to Lynx in SAA Opener

CONWAY, Ark. - In their Southern Athletic Association opener, the Hendrix College men's basketball team lost to Rhodes College 56-54 at Grove Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

The visiting Lynx (4-3, 1-0) led 34-28 at the half and led 48-40 with 7:46 remaining. The Warriors (4-4, 0-1) went on a 12-4 run capped by a game-tying three-pointer from sophomore guard Drew Nikolovski with 2:23 left to play.

Rhodes forwared Geoff Livsey made a basket with 1:59 and Drew Miller hit one of two free throws to give the Lynx a three-point lead with 1:20 on the clock. Nikolovski hit a jumper from the elbow 15 seconds later to cut the margin to 55-54. The teams traded missed shots and the Lynx regained possession with 6.6 seconds to play. Fouled with 3.6 on the clock, Tate Sledge made one of two free throw attempts to give Rhodes the two point advantage. The Warriors failed to get a shot off in the closing seconds of the game.

For the game, Hendrix shot 37.5 percent (18-of-48) and were 3-of-12 from outside. Rhodes hot 37.3 percent (19-of-51) and were 2-of-9 from three-point range. The teams were whistled for a combined 53 fouls, but both teams struggled at the charity stripe. The Warriors made 15-of-29 attempts, while the Lynx went 16-of-33. Rhodes held a 41-38 edge in rebounds.

Sophomore guard Jordan Barrett came off the bench to lead Hendrix with 12 points. Junior forward Luke Vance scored 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Hank Aldous recorded nine points, two assists, two blocks and two steals and Nikolovski finished with seven points. Senior forward Colton Primm added six points and seven boards.

Drew Miller led Rhodes with 15 points and seven rebounds and Johnny Dunavant netted 13 points.

Hendrix will host non-conference foe Rust College on Monday night.
