CONWAY, Ark. - Director of Athletics
Amy Weaver has announced that former Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher
Steve Andrade has been hired as an assistant coach for the Hendrix Warriors Baseball program.
"We are very excited to have Coach Andrade with us this year," stated head baseball coach
Sean McSheffery. "He brings a passion for pitching and a great wealth of knowledge from an incredible career. We are very lucky to have him on our staff."
Prior to his arrival at Hendrix, Coach Andrade most recently served as the Rookie Pitching Coach in the Los Angeles Dodgers' organization.
After being drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 3, 1998 in the 46th round of the amateur draft, Coach Andrade, a standout pitcher for California State University - Stanislaus (CSUS), decided not to sign professionally and continued his collegiate career. Three seasons later, the Woodland, Cali. native was drafted by the Anaheim Angels in the 32nd round of the 2001 amateur draft. After stints with the Dodgers, Angels, Tampa Bay Rays, and San Diego Padres' minor league teams, Coach Andrade made his MLB debut on May 1, 2006 against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park in Detroit, Mich. For his debut outing, Coach Andrade tossed 11 pitches in 1.1 innings of work and struck out a batter.
In his last collegiate season at CSUS in 2001, Coach Andrade recorded a team-best 3.65 ERA in 69.0 innings on the mound. He also recorded 65 strikeouts and saw 11 appearances on the mound and also registered three complete games.
