Ben's Report: Warriors Seek 'Major' Win at Millsaps

(oh no, another pun)

Conway, Ark. - Coming off a convincing win last week versus Southwestern, the Warriors now head to Jackson, Miss. to take on Millsaps in their second Southern Athletic Association (SAA) contest. Hendrix will arrive at Harper Davis Field on the back of a terrific performance last Saturday, one that saw them cause four turnovers and create 551 yards of total offense. Jacob Buniff and Nate Hahn were awarded the SAA Offensive and Defensive Athlete of the Week awards, respectively, for their efforts.

There was a question about the Hendrix run game moving into last Saturday's matchup versus Southwestern, and a stellar performance from Jason Sullivan was likely the answer Warrior fans were looking for. With the ability to open and establish a run game, Hendrix scored two of their touchdowns on deep balls thrown on play-action. Expect to see more of that in Jackson this weekend.

Another good sign for Warrior fans with the team's ability to convert in red-zone situations. There were some struggles out of the gate for the Warriors, but with two touchdowns last week coming inside the twenty-yard line, hopefully this trend continues as the team heads on the road.

The Warriors will look to Quarterback Jacob Buniff to be the hero on Saturday. Buniff threw for 395 yards against Southwestern and with Wideout Kayn Utley returning this week after spending last week sidelined, Buniff will have even more downfield threats. Mason Hays and Jax Johnson will also be targets, both of whom had over 100 yards receiving last weekend.

On the other side of the ball, Keaton Hahn will be a key for the Warrior defense, coming off a strong week against Millsaps, as well as Nathan Hahn, who recorded a scoop-and-score in last week's matchup. To secure their second victory of the season, Hendrix will be looking to turn the ball over consistently and to make plays off those opportunities. Making turnovers count was key in last Saturday's game.

Millsaps has struggled as of late. The Majors are still looking for their first win, coming off a tough defeat at Sewanee in a game many expected the team to handle with ease. Tight End D.B. Bennett will be a key for the Majors this week, coming off two strong weeks receiving while also being a blocking threat. Quarterback Gray Jennings has also been a force, with two rushing touchdowns the week prior and a passing touchdown. The Warriors will need to lock him down early but with a strong Senior linebacker core, the Warriors will hope to eliminate Jennings as a rushing threat.

Hendrix is 7-3 all time against Millsaps. Their last matchup was a 34-28 win for the Majors in Jackson. The game is scheduled for a 1 PM CST kickoff.
