A native of Paragould, Arkansas, Jason Bland is a third-generation Hendrix alumnus. While at Hendrix, he lettered in basketball all four years and played on the 1995-1996 national tournament team.

Bland was a 1998-1999 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Conference selection, and also was selected as conference player of the week. During the 1998-1999 season, he led the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in rebounding and was fourth in the conference in scoring. At the end of his career, he ranked seventh all-time in the conference in single-game rebounds, with a personal best of 19 against Austin College. As a senior, he led the Warriors in scoring, rebounding, blocks, field goals made, field goal percentage, and free throws. Bland is also fifth in career blocks for the Warriors, and tenth in season rebounding average. 

His family has a long history at Hendrix College. His grandfather, Francis Bland, graduated from Hendrix in 1940, and his parents, Herb and Kay Denton Bland, graduated in 1967.

Bland is married to Kristen, and they have twin sons, Jack Garrett and Thomas. They live in Memphis, Tennessee, where they attend Christ United Methodist Church and he serves as a vice president for First Alliance Bank.
