Hendrix College Athletics

Joe B. McGee, class of '27, of Conway began covering the Bulldogs for the local Log Cabin Democrat while a student at Hendrix and continued to report on the fortunes of the college’s varsity athletic teams for the next 50 years. As a student at Hendrix, McGee worked part time at the Log Cabin in addition to serving as athletic editor for the Troubadour yearbook and as sports editor of the Bull Dog, the student newspaper. After graduation, McGee continued sports reporting for the Log Cabin where he had a long and distinguished career. He earned numerous awards including the Arkansas Press Association’s Golden 50 Newspaper Service Award and the Meritorious Service Award from the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame. McGee died in 1984 at age 78.
