Ted Darragh

Ted Darragh was one of the most accomplished golfers in Hendrix history.

Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Darragh graduated from Sewanee Military Academy before attending Hendrix. While in Conway, he helped the Warriors to a 1939 state title at the finals in Jonesboro. In 1940, the Warriors placed second in the state with Darragh on the team. He also spent a season on the Warrior basketball team. 

After graduation, he attended the University of Arizona before joining the Army Air Corps in 1943 as a Lieutenant piloting B-25s. After the war, Darragh returned to Little Rock and eventually became the President and Board Chairman of Darragh Company. He was also the general manager of the Darragh Investment Company. 

Darragh served as president of the Arkansas Feed Manufacturers, Arkansas Poultry Federation, Arkansas Farm and Ranch Club, and was a board member of the Arkansas State Fair, American Egg Board and Poultry and Egg National Board.

Darragh continued his love of golf throughout his life. He made 10 holes-in-one and 39 eagles and a shot a 63 at Conway Country Club. He won numerous titles during his lifetime. Darragh qualified and played in the USGA Senior Championship in Denver, Colorado. He played with legends such as Gary Player, Bob Hope and Davis Love, Jr. He also served as chairman of the committee that oversaw the building of Rebsamen Park Golf Course.

He was a member of many associations including the World Golf Association, Mexican Golf Association, and Southern Golf Association.  He was President of the Arkansas State Golf Association for seven years and a Director of the Central Arkansas Pro-Am for 50 years. Darragh was also a United States Golf Association committee member for nearly 50 years and served as a Rules Official at numerous championships, including the U.S. Open and U.S. Senior Open.  

Darragh received the Grainger USGA Service Award and the Meritorious Service Award for Contributions to Golf in the State of Arkansas from the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame. He was inducted into the Arkansas Golf Hall of Fame in 1995.
