Hall of Honor
Larry Lowe was brought to Hendrix by Hall of Honor coach Morgan Hutto and was a member of an outstanding senior class that was known for its character, leadership, and abilities in both the classroom and in the gym. Lowe played his senior season under the leadership of another Hall of Honor coach, Cliff Garrison.
During his basketball career, Lowe totaled 1,085 points, averaging 11.5 per game, 378 rebounds, shot over 45% from the field, and earned All AIC honors in 1971. He shone the brightest in Hendrix’s matchups with cross-town rival Arkansas State Teachers College – now known as the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) – and notched a career-high 33 points against the Bears during his senior season.
Lowe was also a phenomenal track & field star and excelled in the long jump, setting the school record for the triple jump at 47 feet, 2.75 inches in 1973.
After graduation, Lowe dedicated his life to his community as a firefighter with the Little Rock Fire Department before serving as Captain of the LRFD. After his retirement, Lowe served as Sergeant at Arms in the Arkansas Senate during legislative sessions.
