Like so many other great Hendrix students over the years, Nick was “home grown” right here in Conway. A natural on the courts, Nick was a leader on his Conway High School basketball team and lettered in 1982, 1983, and 1984. He was named an All-Conference player in 1983 and 1984 and was an Honorable Mention for the All-State team in 1984.

As a Hendrix basketball Warrior, Nick lettered in each of the four years he was here. He was the Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference leader in free throws for three seasons – 86% in 1986, 82% in 1987, and 84.5% in 1988. His junior year included an Honorable Mention as an All-AIC player, Honorable Mention as an NAIA All-District 17 player, and he was recognized as Defensive Player of the Year. As a senior, Nick once again was named as an Honorable Mention for both All-AIC and NAIA All-District teams, was named Spaulding Player of the Game on five separate occasions, was recognized by the Arkansas Democrat newspaper as Player of the Week, and was given the Bobby Reese Award, voted on by coaches in the conference.

Nick’s other interests as a Hendrix student included participating in the Students for Black Culture Committee, and serving as an ambassador for the College through membership on the Hendrix Host Committee, meeting with high school students around the state who were interested in attending Hendrix.

Since graduating, Nick has received numerous coaching honors, including winning seven conference championships, five AAU National Basketball championships, two All-Star game coaching appearances, two state championships, and two conference Outstanding Coach awards. In addition to this great legacy of sports leadership, Nick is a licensed minister, continuing to serve others as a positive role model.
