At Hendrix, Larry lettered in basketball every year from 1960-1964. He led the NAIA in free throw percentage. In fact, during the Homecoming game in 1964, Larry shot a perfect 100%, making 19 out of 19 free throws, contributing to the 31 points he scored in that game. During his senior year, it is reported that he made 39 freethrows in a row. Larry scored 25 points in his final Hendrix home game in a victory over Ouachita Baptist in 1964, and served as team captain that year.

According to his teammate and former Hendrix Trustee Kent Ritchie, “Larry was a calming influence on a young team and a key player in reigniting a winning tradition at Hendrix. He was a coach on the floor and a player Coach could depend on to execute the game plan. Larry had very good shooting form and was deadly from his position on the court. He was the player we wanted with the last shot.”

After graduating from Hendrix, Larry served for 25 years as Chief Financial Officer of Truman Arnold Companies, in Texarkana, Texas. Upon his retirement in 2000, he moved to Niceville, Fla., and became one of the top senior golfers in the area. Larry has victories in 14 tournaments in Florida’s Emerald Coast Senior Scratch Series and was named Player of the Year in 2005, 2006, and 2007.
