Dick Farr graduated from Wynne High School in 1946 and arrived at Hendrix College in 1948. He spent the next four years excelling as a student, an athlete, and a leader on campus. Farr spent three football seasons as starting quarterback for the Warriors; starting forward/guard for Warriors Basketball for four years (team co-captain during his senior year); 10 Arkansas Athletic Conference Championships in tennis; two Arkansas State Tennis Singles Championships; four Arkansas State Tennis Doubles Championships; and in 1949, received the first “White Letterman’s Sweater” (noting a Conference championship) that any Hendrix varsity athlete had earned in recent memory. He earned seven varsity letters in football and basketball, contributing to his total of 16 varsity letters in five sports.

Farr was elected to the Dean’s List every semester during all four years of his time at Hendrix, and selected as “Most Outstanding Student” by the Hendrix faculty for two of those years. He served as Sophomore Class President, then his senior year as Student Body President; was elected to Alpha Chi National Honorary Fraternity; and chosen as the Student Commencement Speaker in 1952. He worked as campus postmaster, which helped him pay for 100% of his college expenses. Along with one other student, Farr was chosen for Special Advanced Independent Study with Hendrix President Matt Ellis. He was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship for study at the Sorbonne in Paris, France; served as president of the World War II Veterans’ Association; organized and led 7:00 a.m. Morning Worship for all four years.
